Late Summer Jobs

The bee hives are full of honey, not surprising as the weather has been perfect for their foraging. A brief inspection of the hive had us claiming the rent for accomodating them....of course we only took what was needed, leaving plenty for them.

Wild carrot is still prominent on the flower meadow.

Frames are lifted, 4lbs each frame.

Our bee keepers are aged 16 and 20!

With most flowers gone to seed we have started to scythe the flower meadow.

Raking and scything

Certain areas we are delaying the cut due to Goldfinch feeding on the seed heads, particularly the thistle and knapweed.

Hover flies, beetles and bees adore knapweed and thistles too!
