Pond, Birds and others

The Trust held a mini event for young folk between the ages of 6 to 15.

As always the enthusiasm of the attending folk kept us recording various pond species.

The above Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea), female, was laying eggs on the pond edges.

The male was less active soaking up the sun, resting on the green house guttering. As you can see the difference in colouration with blue markings.

This above is a larval stage of the dragonfly where it lives for the majority of its life cycle.

Palmate newts in both stages, plus diving beetles. We will be doing a separate blog on our pond survey.
